Fear gripped Matazu town in Katsina State on Thursday night as armed bandits attacked a mosque during Isha prayers, leaving several worshippers dead and others injured.

A security analyst, Bakatsine, confirmed the incident in a post on X on Friday, warning that assaults on places of worship in the North-West were becoming alarmingly frequent.

“Bandits attacked Matazu town in Katsina State during Isha prayer, killing and injuring worshippers.

Government must act urgently because these attacks are becoming too frequent,” he wrote.

Eyewitnesses said the gunmen stormed the mosque in large numbers, shooting indiscriminately before fleeing the scene.

The exact number of casualties remains unclear as of press time.

The Katsina State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
