Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has accused Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, of plotting to destabilise the state through the recruitment of political thugs, arms trafficking, and collaboration with foreign mercenaries.
Malami, who now leads the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi, made the allegations in a petition dated September 10, 2025, and addressed to the National Security Adviser, the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the Department of State Services, and the Comptrollers-General of Immigration and Civil Defence.
In the petition, he claimed that Governor Idris and his associates were working with mercenaries from neighbouring Niger Republic and allegedly funnelling weapons to them through illegal channels.
He said the intention was to intimidate citizens, suppress opposition voices, and undermine public peace.
Citing what he described as a September 1 attack on himself and his supporters by armed thugs, Malami alleged that the attackers operated “without fear of law enforcement,” which he linked to government collusion with violent groups.
He further accused the governor of maintaining covert ties with the terrorist network Lakurawa, warning that the situation constituted a “national security emergency” that threatened Nigeria’s sovereignty and internal stability.
The former minister urged security agencies to move swiftly to secure border communities, curb arms trafficking, strengthen intelligence coordination, and investigate the alleged collaboration between Kebbi State officials and criminal networks.
His media aide, Mohammed Bello Doka, confirmed that copies of the petition had been submitted to the DSS, Police, Immigration, and Civil Defence authorities.
