The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a man, Wale Ibrahim, for allegedly stabbing 25-year-old Fisayo Ajetumobi to death during a dispute over a N14,000 debt.
Police spokesperson DSP Olushola Ayanlade confirmed the incident in a statement issued Wednesday in Akure.
He said the suspect attacked the victim with a knife during an altercation at a construction site along Lake Road, near Litaye Camp in Ondo East Local Government Area.
The case was reported on September 13 at about 6:30 p.m. by one Akinsola Lukman of Sabo Road, Ondo. According to the police, Ibrahim had gone to the site to demand N14,000 owed him by Gabriel Oyeniran for wood supplied earlier.
“An altercation ensued between the duo, during which the suspect, Wale Ibrahim, became violent and stabbed one Fisayo Ajetumobi, aged 25 years, on the chest with a knife. The victim sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot,” Ayanlade said.
He added that Ibrahim was immediately arrested and has since been charged to court.
Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, condemned the killing, describing it as a senseless act of violence.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to shun violence and adopt lawful means of resolving disputes.
Lawal also called on the public to support the police with timely information that could help prevent crime and enhance security in the state.
