The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a commercial driver in Ibadan after he was found in possession of unlicensed firearms and other dangerous weapons.

Police spokesperson, Adewale Osifeso, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Friday, noting that it followed intensified intelligence-driven stop-and-search operations across major highways and intersections in the state.

According to him, the arrest was made on Thursday, September 18, 2025, around 9:11 p.m. during a Federal Highway Patrol operation at the Toll Gate on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

“A Toyota bus with registration number AFZ 933 XA was stopped, and a search uncovered two locally-made single-barrelled firearms, two brand-new stainless steel machetes, and 20 live cartridges,” the statement said.

The driver, who could not provide a valid driver’s licence or vehicle documents, was taken into custody along with the seized items.

Meanwhile, in Imo State, the police command announced the arrest of 957 suspected terrorists, kidnappers, and armed robbers within two months.

Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, told journalists in Owerri on Friday that nine kidnap victims and seven abducted children were also rescued and reunited with their families.

He disclosed that operatives had dismantled camps belonging to the proscribed IPOB/ESN and foiled several kidnapping operations across Okigwe, Mbaitoli, Owerri West, Njaba and other parts of the state.

“Sixteen suspects, including a sub-commander, were arrested in a raid at Obudi Agwa, Oguta LGA, while others linked to kidnapping and ransom collection remain in custody,” Danjuma said.

He added that ongoing operations have disrupted the funding channels of the group, leading to a decline in violent attacks.

The police assured residents of both states that security operations would be sustained to protect lives and property.
