A 20-year-old man, Imaran Abdullahi, was on Monday arraigned before a Life Camp Chief Magistrates’ Court in Abuja for allegedly snatching a mobile phone from a moving car at Wuse Market.
Abdullahi, who has no fixed address, was charged with theft but pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutor Charity Nwachukwu told the court that on August 16, the defendant allegedly reached through the window of a car driven by one Isaac Mogaji near a Guaranty Trust Bank branch, stole his Pourv 9v phone worth N135,000, and attempted to flee.
She further alleged that while Mogaji chased after him, Abdullahi pulled out a pair of scissors and attempted to stab him before he was apprehended.
The police said the suspect confessed during interrogation but failed to provide a reasonable explanation for his actions.
The prosecutor said the offence contravenes Section 287 of the Penal Code.
Chief Magistrate Musa Jobbo granted Abdullahi bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety residing within the court’s jurisdiction and adjourned the matter until October 16 for hearing.
