The Osun State Police Command has begun investigations into the killing of a worshipper, Monrufu Adebisi, who was found dead shortly after observing early morning prayers at a mosque in Osogbo.
The incident, which occurred around 6:30 a.m. on Monday at Church Street, Dada Estate, threw residents into panic.
Witnesses said the victim was returning from the mosque when unidentified assailants attacked him.
A resident, Kikelomo, told our correspondent that Adebisi was well known in the neighbourhood.
She said his body was discovered by a farmer heading out early, who then raised the alarm.
Police spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the incident, saying the deceased was found lying in a pool of blood by a passerby. He added that the body had been evacuated and an autopsy would be conducted.
“Our intelligence department is on the ground, sniffing around to know what could be the cause.
We are assuring the people of Osun State that we will unravel whatever is behind the killing,” Ojelabi said.
The killing comes at a time when the police command has been intensifying its crackdown on violent crimes across the state.
Earlier this month, seven suspects were arrested in Ile-Ife and Iree for alleged armed robbery, attempted murder, and cult-related violence, with stolen motorcycles recovered in the process.
Police have urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with investigators as efforts continue to trace those behind Adebisi’s death.
