Some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State have petitioned the party’s Governorship Screening Committee, demanding the disqualification of governorship aspirant, Engr. Kayode Ojo, from the forthcoming 2025 primaries.
The petition, signed by over 50 party members, was presented to journalists in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday by Mr. Jogunola Joel Tolani of Ayetoro Ward 2, Ido/Osi Local Government; Mr. Alake Busuyi of Aisegba Ward 8, Aiyekire/Gbonyi Local Government; and Mr. Tayo Ogunlusi from Irepodun Local Government.
The petitioners alleged that Ojo’s nomination form was riddled with irregularities. According to them, a legal review revealed that out of 122 names listed as nominators, 68 were not valid APC members in Ekiti State, leaving only 54 valid nominators—far below the required minimum of 80.
They further claimed that Ojo failed to meet the mandatory spread of at least five nominators from each local government, as stipulated in the party’s guidelines.
They accused Ojo of falsely declaring full compliance, describing the act as “deceitful” and a violation of the party’s principles.
“Such actions undermine the APC’s values of honesty, transparency, and integrity,” Tolani and Busuyi said, urging the Screening Committee to uphold the party’s constitution by clearing only qualified aspirants.
They also called on party members and the public to remain vigilant to prevent any breach of APC rules ahead of the primaries.
In reaction, Ojo’s spokesman, Alhaji Deji Ayelabowo, dismissed the petitioners as “jesters and desperate people,” insisting that his principal remains unstoppable.
“Nobody can stop Engr. Kayode Ojo from contesting the Ekiti 2026 governorship election.
Nobody can undo what God has done,” Ayelabowo said.
