The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old man, Okwuchukwu Ezimuo, for allegedly stabbing his relative, Joseph Dike, to death during a quarrel over a family land dispute in Umunocha Village, Awka-Etiti, Idemili South Local Government Area.

The incident occurred on Monday evening when an argument between the two men escalated. Ezimuo was said to have struck the 65-year-old victim in the chest, causing him to collapse.

Dike was rushed to the hospital but was confirmed dead by a medical doctor on duty.

Police spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Wednesday.

He said officers attached to the Nnobi Divisional Headquarters visited the scene, documented evidence, and took photographs before taking the suspect into custody.

Ikenga added that preliminary investigations revealed the attack stemmed from a long-standing land dispute between the two relatives.

The suspect is currently undergoing interrogation, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for further investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, described the incident as unfortunate and urged residents to embrace dialogue and non-violent means in resolving disputes.

This latest case adds to similar incidents recorded in the state.

In February, police arrested one Christian Ndu for allegedly stabbing his elder brother to death during a quarrel in another community.
