The Borno State Police Command has arrested two Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) accused of beating a 72-year-old man to death at the ISS IDP camp in Ngala Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson, ASP Nahun Daso, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri on Monday, stating that the attack occurred on Saturday.

The suspects, identified as Modu Mohammed, 25, and Annami Modu, 32, allegedly conspired to assault the victim, Abba Mustapha, with sticks after accusing him of bewitching the wife of one of them and causing her illness.

Daso explained that policemen at the camp intervened and rushed Mustapha to the General Hospital in Ngala, where doctors pronounced him dead.

He added that the suspects were immediately arrested, while some exhibits were recovered from the scene.

The victim’s body was later released to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites after an autopsy.

Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigation Department in Maiduguri has launched a full probe into the matter.
