The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a security guard, Amos Kini, for allegedly abducting a two-year-old boy in the Elemoro area of the state.

Police spokesperson SP Abimbola Adebisi, in a statement on Monday, said the incident was reported by the child’s mother on September 21.

According to her, Kini fled with the boy and a mobile phone to an undisclosed location around 11:50 p.m., before demanding ₦5 million ransom from the child’s father using the stolen phone.

Investigators also questioned one Aruna Dauda, who had stood as guarantor for the suspect at the time of his employment.

The toddler was later released unharmed, but police operatives intensified their search until September 23, when the Tactical Squad, codenamed Hyena, tracked down and arrested Kini at his hideout in Elemoro.

Adebisi confirmed that the suspect confessed to the crime and remains in custody, adding that he will be charged in court once investigations are concluded.

Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh described the abduction as reprehensible and assured residents of the command’s resolve to clamp down on violent crimes in Lagos.

The police further urged parents to remain vigilant and advised the public to report suspicious activities through the command’s emergency hotlines.
