The incident happened on Monday at the university’s College of Agricultural Science campus during the announcement of election results, when gunshots were fired to disperse students.

A student reportedly sustained injuries from a stray bullet and was rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki.

He disclosed that a locally made pistol was recovered from them.

Ukandu said the suspects remain in custody and will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.

He added that Commissioner of Police, Adaku Uche-Anya, has assured the public of the command’s commitment to maintaining peace and security, urging officers to remain professional and intensify crime prevention efforts as the festive season draws near.
