Ondo State Government has approved a 100 per cent increase in bursary allocations for indigent students of the state studying in public and private institutions across the country.
The measure, which takes effect under the 2026 fiscal year, is aimed at providing relief to students of Ondo origin in tertiary institutions.
Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Laolu Akindolire, announced the decision in Akure during a consultative meeting with stakeholders on the 2026 budget.
He said the increment was the product of deliberate fiscal planning and resource prioritisation by the state government.
Mr. Akindolire described it as a demonstration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to inclusive development and human capital investment in the state.
“This bold and strategic decision is coming at a time when many states are grappling with economic strain. It is not just a policy shift; it is a reaffirmation of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s unwavering belief in the transformative power of education and the importance of supporting young indigenes as pillars of tomorrow’s economy,” he said.
According to him, the governor has consistently placed the welfare of Ondo citizens at the forefront of his administration’s agenda, adding that the bursary increase signals that “the government listens, empathises, and acts.”
