The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a man, identified as Bolaji Oluwasetire, for allegedly sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl in the Osoro area of Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.

Police spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, disclosed in a statement that the incident was reported by the victim’s father, Mr. Kolawole Joseph, at the Ore Divisional Headquarters on October 1, 2025. Following the report, detectives from the Gender Desk Office were deployed and apprehended the suspect.

“While in custody, the suspect suddenly began to vomit a greenish substance.

Upon interrogation, he confessed to ingesting a herbicide in a bid to escape justice for his criminal act,” the police statement read.

Oluwasetire was immediately taken to the General Hospital, Ore, where he is currently receiving medical treatment under strict supervision.

The Command confirmed that the minor is safe and has been provided with the necessary medical and psychological support. It added that the suspect will be charged to court upon recovery.

Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for sexual and gender-based violence, warning that perpetrators will face the full weight of the law.

He also commended the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for his unwavering support in safeguarding children and other vulnerable groups across the country.

The Command urged parents, guardians, and community leaders to remain alert and promptly report any suspected cases of sexual abuse, stressing that Ondo State will not serve as a refuge for sexual offenders.
