The Edo State Police Command has arrested a middle-aged man identified as TJ for allegedly murdering his wife, Queen, in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area of the state.
The tragic incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday, September 30, shortly after the couple had celebrated the second birthday of their son.
According to residents, there had been no sign of disagreement between the couple before the incident.
A neighbour, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the discovery was made the following morning when their young son came out of the room with bloodstains on his body.
“When we saw the child, we initially thought he was hurt, but when we checked and saw he was fine, we rushed into the house and found the woman lying lifeless in a pool of blood, her throat slit,” the source recounted.
The suspect was said to have fled the scene immediately after the attack, prompting neighbours to alert the police.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, CSP Moses Yamu, said the suspect was later apprehended and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Benin City for further investigation.
“The suspect has been arrested and moved to the State CID for proper investigation. The command will ensure that justice is served,” Yamu stated.
