Troops of the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have cleared multiple bandits’ hideouts in Takum and Ussa Local Government Areas of Taraba State.
The successful operation was part of the ongoing Operation Lafiya Nakowa, according to a statement issued on Monday by the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Lt. Umar Muhammad.
Muhammad explained that the clearance operation followed credible intelligence reports about bandits’ activities in the Tarhembe, Tornyi, TY Farm, and Kando areas of Takum, as well as parts of Ussa LGA where farmlands had been destroyed.
He said that on October 5, troops conducted simultaneous raids on the identified locations.
“Team A advanced into Tarhembe and Tornyi, where they made contact with the bandits. The troops’ superior firepower forced the criminals to flee into the forest.
During the operation, troops recovered four rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, one AK-47 magazine, and a motorcycle,” the statement read.
“Team B also carried out operations within Lissam in Ussa LGA, successfully clearing several suspected bandits’ camps without resistance,” it added.
The Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier-General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their professionalism and resilience throughout the mission.
He urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to aid the military and other security agencies in maintaining peace in the region.
According to him, the operations have significantly disrupted criminal networks, denied bandits freedom of action, and reassured local communities of the Army’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
