Two persons have been confirmed dead and one injured in a trailer accident that occurred at Idi Ayunre, along the Ijebu-Ode–Ibadan Road, on Saturday.

Eyewitnesses said the trailer, reportedly owned by Kulum Quarry located at Olohunde Ige Village, lost control and crushed three people.

One of the victims died on the spot, while two others were rushed to the hospital.

The second victim was said to have died while receiving treatment, and the third had one of his limbs amputated.

The incident sparked outrage among residents, as angry youths barricaded the road in protest, demanding justice and the arrest of the driver.

Chairman of Oluyole Local Government Area, Engineer Akeem Olatunji, who visited the scene on Monday, appealed for calm and assured that those responsible would be held accountable.

“This is another avoidable tragedy. My heart goes out to the families of the victims.

No one should lose their loved ones in such a cruel manner, especially when it could have been prevented,” Olatunji said.

He promised that the local government would ensure the driver is prosecuted and that the company compensates the victims’ families.

“We understand your anger, but we must handle this responsibly. I assure you, justice will be served,” he added, urging the youths to remain peaceful and refrain from any act of violence.
