The maiden edition of the Akoko KidsConcert 1.0 has been described as “the talk of the town,” bringing together over 75 schools from across Akoko Land in a grand display of creativity, culture, and youthful brilliance. Out of these, 25 schools showcased impressive presentations and performances that left the audience in awe. The atmosphere was charged with excitement and joy as students demonstrated their skills across various artistic and cultural segments.

Speaking at the event, the Coordinator and CEO of KidsCon, Architect (Mrs.) Funmi Bankole, expressed profound appreciation to the Honourable Minister of Interior, Hon. (Dr.) Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for making it possible to host the program in Akoko for the very first time. She noted that although KidsCon has existed for over 14 years, schools from Akoko had been unable to participate due to the long distance to the state capital. However, through the support and sponsorship of the Minister, the event was successfully brought home, ensuring inclusivity for Akoko students.

“The Honourable Minister’s love for his people made this possible. He singlehandedly sponsored this event to put smiles on the faces of Akoko students. He has also graciously approved that the Akoko KidsConcert becomes an annual event,” she added.

Representing the Honourable Minister at the event, Hon. Alhaji Dona expressed delight at the large turnout and the high standard of presentations from the participating schools. He delivered the Minister’s goodwill message, charging the students to remain great ambassadors of their respective schools and to continue striving for excellence. He also commended Architect Bankole and her team for their well-coordinated efforts and impactful organization.

Out of the 25 performing schools, 10 schools advanced to the second round of competition, from which three finalists emerged as winners based on performance quality, creativity, costume, and technical excellence.

1st Place: Greater Tomorrow International College

2nd Place: Victory College, Ikare

3rd Place: Indomitable Genius Academy

Prizes were presented to the winners by Dr. Charles Bankole, while the raffle draw prize — an American student bicycle — was won by a student from Ipe High School, Ipe Akoko.

To crown the event, every participating student went home with free school bags, food, drinks, and biscuits, courtesy of the Honourable Minister of Interior.

The event was graced by dignitaries including representatives of the Tutor General, Teachers’ Union, principals, parents, and executives of the Adekunle Ajasin University Students’ Union led by Comrade Ologbon, among other stakeholders in the education sector.

The success of the maiden edition has set a high standard for subsequent editions of the Akoko KidsConcert, now officially established as an annual celebration of Akoko’s young talents, made possible through the vision and generosity of Hon. Bunmi Tunji-Ojo.
