The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commenced the compilation of its delegates list ahead of its much-anticipated national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Chairman of the PDP National Convention Organising Committee and Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, disclosed this on Monday in Abuja during a meeting of the committee’s Protocol Subcommittee.
Fintiri assured party members that the process would be transparent and inclusive, reaffirming the PDP’s commitment to internal democracy and fairness for all aspirants.
“I want to reassure you that we are fully committed and will not leave any stone unturned. We are putting in our best and making sacrifices to ensure a successful convention,” he said.
The governor, who spoke passionately about his long-standing loyalty to the party, described the PDP as a political institution that had greatly influenced his personal and professional life.
“Apart from Islam, the PDP is the next association that has given me everything I have achieved in life. I will forever remain grateful to this party,” Fintiri said, adding that the next National Working Committee (NWC) to emerge would comprise individuals of integrity and competence.
According to him, the process will allow all qualified aspirants to contest freely, as no one would be denied participation.
“We are not going to deny anybody the chance to contest. The screening will be transparent. Everyone who has purchased forms will be screened, provided there are no issues with their documents or records. Go and test your popularity in the field because we are finalising the names of the delegates,” he stated.
Fintiri further assured that the delegates’ list would be released in a transparent manner, similar to how the subcommittee names were made public.
He encouraged aspirants to engage in open campaign activities, saying, “You can still move around and canvass for votes. It’s not a closed system; it’s open democracy. If you feel you are popular, go to the field and test your strength. In the end, those supported by the majority will emerge victorious.”
The governor noted that the enthusiasm among members reflected renewed confidence in the PDP’s revival, adding that the party was regaining momentum across the country.
“Even when we had our inaugural meeting, it wasn’t as full as this. It shows that life is returning to the party. People are beginning to trust and show commitment to what we are doing,” he said.
Also speaking, Plateau State Governor and Chairman of the Protocol Subcommittee, Caleb Mutfwang, commended the level of mobilisation and commitment ahead of the Ibadan convention, describing it as evidence of the PDP’s resilience and readiness to reclaim its position as Nigeria’s leading opposition party.PDP Moves to Finalise Delegates List Ahead of Ibadan Convention
