Three persons have reportedly been killed in a renewed cult clash between suspected members of the Aiye and Eiye confraternities in Atan-Ota, Ogun State.
The incident, which occurred around 8 p.m. on Monday in the Kajola area of the town, threw residents into panic as gunshots rang out during the attack.
A security source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the clash was a reprisal by members of the Aiye cult following the killing of one of their members by a rival group two weeks ago.
“There was a cult clash between Aiye and Eiye members.
The Aiye group stormed the area, shooting sporadically to scare residents before killing three suspected members of the Eiye group,” the source said.
It was gathered that the assailants fled the scene before security operatives arrived, while the bodies of the victims were later recovered by residents.
Efforts to get a reaction from the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, were unsuccessful, as she had yet to respond to calls and messages at press time.
