Gunmen have abducted a tipper driver, identified as Tobi Abdulmalik Oluwatuyi, along the Akure–Owo Expressway in Ondo State.
The incident occurred early Friday around 6 a.m. at Ilu Abo when the truck reportedly broke down on the highway.
While the driver was attempting to fix the faulty vehicle, the assailants suddenly emerged from the nearby bush and seized him. His assistant, popularly known as the motor boy, narrowly escaped and raised the alarm, alerting residents in the area.
Confirming the development, the owner of the tipper, Mr. Monday Ayesoro, said the matter had been reported to security agencies for immediate action.
In reaction, the Commander of the Ondo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps), Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, said operatives had commenced a massive manhunt for the kidnappers.
According to him, “We are already combing the forest and have blocked all escape routes, including those leading to Ise in Ekiti State, to prevent the abductors from fleeing.
We are determined to ensure the victim’s safe rescue.”
The abduction adds to growing concerns over rising cases of kidnapping along major highways in the state, despite intensified patrols by security agencies.
