Popular APC chieftain cautions Sowore against campaign for Nnamdi Kanu’s release

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has cautioned activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, against his recent calls for the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

Igbokwe, who issued the warning in a post on his verified Facebook page on Friday, described Kanu as a major source of instability in the Southeast, alleging that his activities and those of his followers had led to widespread bloodshed and destruction in the region.

The APC stalwart claimed that Sowore was embarking on a “senseless mission” by supporting Kanu’s release, urging him to distance himself from the matter.

He wrote, “Omoyele Sowore says he is marching to Aso Rock to protest against the detention of the butcher of the South East called Nnamdi Kanu. I have told him as a friend to run away from the matter because it is bigger than him.”

Igbokwe alleged that Kanu’s movement had turned the Southeast into a “killing field,” stating that the IPOB leader’s campaign for Biafra caused loss of lives and set the region back.

“Nnamdi Kanu shed thousands of blood in the Southeast in 10 years.

His men turned the region into a place where life was nasty, brutish, and short,” he said.

The former Lagos State government aide further accused Kanu of destroying the reputation and dignity of the Igbo nation, saying the movement had inflicted deep social and economic damage.

He added, “We lost respect, honor, integrity, and wisdom. Whatever came over our people, I cannot explain. Idiots and vagabonds ruined the land of the rising sun while we went to sleep.”

Addressing Sowore directly, Igbokwe said, “Sowore, how many times did I call you? Run away from Southeast matters.

You know nothing about what Nnamdi Kanu did in the region in the name of Biafra. Blood was shed, and I am a victim.”

He advised Nigerians from other regions not to get involved in the issue, describing Kanu’s agitation as “childish and senseless.”

Kanu, who has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since 2021, is facing terrorism-related charges before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Sowore had earlier announced plans to lead a protest to demand his release.
