I was sexually harassed by Priests – Dismissed Catholic Nun alleges

A dismissed Catholic nun, Rev. Sr. Anastasia Kinse, has alleged that she was sexually harassed by a priest and possesses evidence to support her claims.

Kinse made the disclosure during an interview on Prime Time, a programme on Arise Television, on Monday.

The former nun, who served under the Auchi Catholic Diocese in Edo State, claimed she was dismissed from her position at Veritas University, Abuja, after exposing alleged cases of sexual misconduct within the Church.

“I find it funny when people ask for evidence. Imagine me coming out to call names and talk — it doesn’t make any sense,” she said. “It’s not as if the evidence doesn’t exist.

“It does, but I cannot put them out there. I have a video and an audio recording that shows where the Veritas HOD harassed me.”

Kinse said she joined the Congregation of Mother of Perpetual Help of the Archangels Sisters in 2015 and faced several challenges during her service.

She claimed to have reported her experiences to her Superior-General and Bishop.

According to her, some priests made inappropriate advances towards her, including an incident where a priest allegedly tried to touch her and another who placed a belt around her waist under the guise of taking her measurement.

She said the repeated incidents caused her deep trauma, which some within the Church allegedly dismissed as a sign of “madness.”

As of press time, the Catholic Diocese of Auchi and Veritas University had yet to respond to the allegations.
