The Department of State Services has apprehended two dismissed officers, Barry Donald and Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, for allegedly impersonating the agency to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians.
The agency disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, confirming that the two former operatives, who had earlier been declared wanted in separate public notices, have been arrested and will be prosecuted.
“The Department of State Services recently issued disclaimers on two dismissed personnel of the Service, Barry Donald and Victor Onyedikachi Godwin. These individuals were alleged to be cloaking under the Service to engage in fraudulent activities.
“The public is hereby notified that these culprits have been apprehended and will face prosecution in accordance with the law,” the Service said.
The arrests follow repeated warnings by the DSS cautioning Nigerians against engaging with the former officers, who were dismissed for misconduct but continued posing as active operatives.
The secret police had earlier raised an alarm over the activities of Godwin, accusing him of using the agency’s name to defraud members of the public under false pretences.
The DSS assured Nigerians of its commitment to upholding integrity within the Service and warned that it would not tolerate any attempt by individuals to tarnish its reputation.
