The Kano State Police Command has arrested five suspects for allegedly impersonating police officers and extorting unsuspecting citizens across Kano, Katsina, and Kaduna states.
Those arrested are Aliyu Abbas, 35; Sani Iliyasu, 47; Ashiru Sule, 41; Abubakar Yahaya, 45; and Adamu Kalilu, 45. They were apprehended on October 16, 2025, around 1:00 p.m. by operatives of the Command’s Special Intervention Squad (SIS) following credible intelligence.
Police spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Saturday.
According to him, the suspects were caught parading themselves as police officers and were found in possession of incriminating items, including a fake police warrant card, a pair of handcuffs, CFA 2,500, mutilated naira notes of various denominations, and a blue Peugeot 406 vehicle with registration number NSR-188-BD.
Kiyawa said the suspects confessed during interrogation to using the fake police identification to intimidate and extort innocent citizens in the three states.
He added that investigation was ongoing, and the suspects would be charged to court upon its conclusion.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, reiterated the Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order, warning that criminal impersonation would not be tolerated.
