The Kwara State Police Command has arrested five suspects in connection with the deadly attack on Oke-Ode community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects were identified as Umar Babuga, Mohammed Ahmed, Aliyu Buba Alade, Sidi Buba Alade, and Sheu Buba Alade.
Police spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the suspects were apprehended for their alleged involvement in the September 28, 2025, assault on the community.
At least 12 residents, including the Baale of Ogba-Ayo, were killed during the attack, while several others were abducted by the assailants.
“They are currently in custody and undergoing investigation,” Ejire-Adeyemi confirmed in a statement on Friday evening.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, has decried the growing trend of residents acting as informants to bandits, describing it as a major factor fuelling kidnappings in parts of the state.
Speaking with journalists in Ilorin, Ojo also lamented the delay by victims’ families in reporting abduction cases to the police.
“The problem is that when their loved ones are in the hands of kidnappers, the criminals threaten to kill the victims if the police are informed.
Out of fear, many families secretly pay ransom without involving security agencies,” the CP said.
He urged residents to cooperate with security operatives and promptly report incidents to enable swift intervention and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.
