A nurse identified as Hadiza Musa, the Deputy Head of the Maternity Unit at Gambo Sawaba General Hospital, Kofar Gayan, Zaria, has been killed by suspected phone snatchers while returning from work.
The tragic incident occurred on Saturday evening when the mother of six was attacked by hoodlums who attempted to steal her mobile phone.
Confirming the development, her husband, Hamza Ibrahim Idris, who works in Abuja, said he last spoke with his wife around 6 p.m. on Saturday after she informed him she had visited a salon and an Islamic chemist in Filin Mallawa, Tudun Wada, Zaria.
“I sent her some money after our last conversation.
When I could no longer reach her, I assumed her phone battery had run down,” Idris said.
He explained that he later learned that his wife had boarded a commercial motorcycle around 6:30 p.m. on her way home when she was attacked by phone snatchers.
“She was reportedly hit on the head and left unconscious by the roadside along Mallawa Eid Ground in Tudun Wada.
A good Samaritan found her and rushed her to a nearby clinic, from where she was referred to Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Shika, where she was confirmed dead,” he said.
Idris added that signs on her hands suggested she had struggled to hold onto her phone before being overpowered.
The bereaved husband noted that the incident occurred just three months after Hadiza lost her sister, whose three children she had adopted, in addition to her own three.
Confirming her death, Abdulkadir Balele Wali, Secretary of Gambo Sawaba General Hospital, described the deceased as a dedicated and professional nurse whose loss was deeply felt by colleagues and patients alike.
Efforts to reach the Kaduna State Police Command spokesperson, Mansur Hassan, for comment were unsuccessful as of press time.
