The Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested two suspected cult members and recovered a locally made pistol with live ammunition during an operation in the Ezza South Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Joshua Ukandu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abakaliki.
Ukandu said the suspects, identified as Chigbo Eze and Igbele Osinachi, were apprehended on Tuesday by operatives of the Crack Squad at Amanekwula Village following credible intelligence.
He explained that the operation was launched after reports of sporadic gunfire by suspected hoodlums in the area.
“On sighting the police team, the suspects attempted to flee into a nearby bush but were pursued and arrested,” Ukandu stated.
Items recovered from them included one locally made pistol and 14 rounds of 9mm live ammunition.
The police spokesperson added that the suspects are in custody as investigations continue to uncover other members of the gang, assuring that they would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the probe.
Ukandu also appealed to residents to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information to help maintain peace and security across the state.
