The Yobe State Police Command has arrested the Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Karasuwa Local Government Area, Abdulmumini Garba, over the alleged killing of a 45-year-old food vendor, Falmata Abubakar, whose body was found near the Federal University, Gashua.

The Police Public Relations Officer for the Command, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, noting that the 60-year-old suspect was apprehended following diligent investigation and sustained intelligence efforts by operatives of the Bade Division.

“Following diligent investigation and sustained intelligence efforts, police operatives from Bade Division have arrested one Abdulmumini Garba, 60, of Gasma, Karasuwa Local Government Area, who serves as the Secretary of the APC Karasuwa and also the Secretary of the Vegetables Market (Kasuwan Gwari) in Gashua, in connection with the death of late Falmata Abubakar, aged 45, of Abasha, Sarkin Hausawa Ward, Gashua,” the statement read.

According to the police, Garba confessed during interrogation that he had conveyed the victim in his vehicle on the day of the incident.

An argument reportedly broke out when she requested financial assistance to support her business, which allegedly led to her death inside the vehicle.

“Realizing that she had died, the suspect stated that he disposed of the body in a nearby bush at about 10:00 p.m. — the spot where the corpse was later discovered,” the statement added.

The State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, commended the Divisional Police Officer and his team for their professionalism and swift response, assuring that justice would be served.

Earlier reports indicated that the lifeless body of the victim, identified as Falmata, was discovered near the Federal University, Gashua, sparking concerns among residents before the police launched an investigation.
