A group, the Concerned Nigerian Youths in Diaspora, has warned the critics of the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, not to distract him with baseless allegation of fake NYSC certificate.
Comrade Timileyin Ayenuro, the group’s on Thursday, described the allegation as baseless since the NYSC management had cleared the minister.
He stated that the leadership of the minister in the ministry and the President Bola Tinubu’s administration was louder than any petition.
“ Dr Bunmi Tunji-Ojo( BTO)’s performance is more than sufficient to silence any petition. It is abundantly clear that the supposed “certificate issue” has already been addressed, and those raising it now are simply chasing shadows.
“First, the NYSC itself has confirmed that Olubunmi Tunji Ojo’s name was “omitted during printing,” and that the certificate eventually issued to him followed an internal administrative review.
“This official position from the NYSC must be regarded as valid and authoritative unless convincingly rebutted with evidence,” he said .
The group’s president said that there are procedures guiding the NYSC’s ability to regularise or reissue certificates even in cases involving abscondment or administrative error.
“The NYSC Bye Laws stipulate that any corps member who absents themselves for a continuous period of three months is considered to have absconded and declared a “wanted person.”
“However, the same Bye Laws and internal NYSC regulations also provide for remobilisation and administrative consideration.
“ This means that a corps member who previously failed to complete their service for valid or invalid reasons may be re-mobilised to complete the service year, after which a discharge certificate may be legitimately issued.
“ It is, therefore, within the NYSC’s legal and administrative authority to regularise any case arising from error, omission, or procedural mishandling,” he said.
According to him, if the minister has duly followed the proper procedures, then his certificate remains valid and legitimate.
“In light of these facts and established compliance, the Presidency should not be distracted by these petitioners.
“The matter should be laid to rest, as BTO has complied with all applicable laws and NYSC regulations in regularising his certificate.
“The NYSC itself has already acknowledged and resolved the so-called “printing omission” issue,” he stated.
