Tension has gripped Ezhigi village in Edati Local Government Area of Niger State after a violent clash between Nupe and Fulani residents left at least four people dead and several others displaced.
The conflict reportedly began on October 21, 2025, following an altercation between a Nupe man from Ezhigi and a Fulani herder, identified as Jibril Adamu, over an undisclosed dispute.
Witnesses said the herder allegedly attacked the Nupe man with a machete, inflicting deep wounds.
The victim was rushed to the General Hospital in Kutigi, where he later died on October 22.
The death of the victim sparked a reprisal by angry Nupe youths, who stormed the Fulani settlement in the area, killing four people and setting several houses ablaze.
Police operatives from the Enagi Division were deployed to the community to restore order and prevent the violence from spreading to neighbouring areas.
Confirming the incident, the Niger State Police Command said the suspect, Jibril Adamu, has been arrested, while an investigation is ongoing to track down others involved in the attacks.
Authorities have since intensified patrols in the area to avert further unrest.
