The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper and rescued two children abducted in Tilden Fulani, Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Wakil, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, confirming that the suspect, identified as Abdulkarim Tasiu, was a relative of the victims.

According to the statement, the incident occurred on Thursday, October 23, 2025, when one Aliyu Hamisu of Tilden Fulani reported that his children — Halima, 12, and Mohammed, 6 — were kidnapped while waiting for their school bus along the main road in the community.

“Upon receipt of the report, detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Kisaba Rimamnyang, immediately visited the scene and launched a criminal investigation,” Wakil said.

Preliminary findings revealed that an eyewitness saw a man on a tricycle pick up the children.

The suspect later contacted the family, demanding a ₦50 million ransom, which he later reduced to ₦1.2 million after negotiation.

“The ransom was to be delivered around Farmers Motors Junction, Bauchi. Acting on credible intelligence, detectives cordoned off the area and arrested the suspect while collecting the money,” the statement added.

Further investigation led the police to Anguwan Rukuba in Jos, Plateau State, where the two abducted children were rescued unhurt and reunited with their parents.

Wakil said the suspect confessed to the crime, citing long-standing grievances against his uncle, the children’s father, as his motive.

In a related development, the command announced the arrest of two suspects over a recent spike in motorcycle thefts across the state.

According to Wakil, on October 21, police operatives apprehended Ibrahim Muhammad Rabiu of the Gwallaga area while in possession of a stolen white Jincheng motorcycle worth ₦100,000, belonging to Mahmud Aliyu of Kobi Street, Bauchi.

Similarly, on October 22, detectives arrested Abdulrahman Ibrahim, also from Gwallaga, after he was caught with a stolen black Haojue ladies’ motorcycle valued at ₦250,000.

Wakil stated that both suspects confessed to the crimes and will be charged to court after investigation.

“The Bauchi State Police Command remains committed to ensuring the safety of residents,” he said. “We urge members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements to the nearest police station.”
