APC reveals four govs set to join party

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has revealed that four serving governors from opposition parties are in advanced discussions to join its fold before the end of 2025, a development expected to bolster the ruling party’s strength ahead of the 2027 general elections.

APC National Vice Chairman (South-East), Dr. Ijeoma Arodiogbu, made the disclosure in an interview, naming the governors of Plateau, Taraba, Rivers, and Abia (Labour Party) as those being courted by the party.

Arodiogbu said the planned defections were “highly possible” and could take place in the coming weeks before the party’s national congresses.

He explained that the move would further consolidate the APC’s dominance across the country, adding that the party’s efforts to strengthen its base were yielding results.

He said, “It is a possibility that the Plateau governor will join us, likewise his Taraba counterpart.

We are also looking forward to receiving Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, in our midst.”

The APC chieftain further clarified that most of the defections were expected before the end of the year, noting that once they occurred, it would reaffirm the APC as the nation’s most organised and dominant political platform.

He attributed the growing interest in the ruling party to its open-door policy and reform-driven leadership, which, he said, have attracted political leaders seeking stability and purposeful governance. According to him, “The APC has become a home for all progressives. We’re not only growing in numbers but in quality leadership. Many leaders now see this as the party that provides stability and direction for Nigeria’s democracy.”

Arodiogbu also noted that the party’s leadership, under its national chairman, has created an inclusive environment for dialogue and participation, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He said the chairman had made it clear that the APC would not shut its doors to anyone, adding, “We’re engaging people of goodwill who share in the president’s vision.”

He expressed confidence that the anticipated defections would further strengthen the APC ahead of its 2025 congresses and position the party strategically for victory in the 2027 general elections.
