The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a recently released ex-convict and two other suspects for various theft-related offences in narate operations across the state.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed in a statement on Thursday that operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) apprehended 25-year-old Segun Kolawole, just five days after his release from the Kirikiri Correctional Centre.
He was arrested alongside Sodiq Isa and Adekanmbi Ganiu for alleged stealing and pickpocketing.
According to the statement, Kolawole was arrested around 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at the Oshodi Market after RRS operatives observed his suspicious movements. A search conducted on him led to the recovery of ₦80,000 and an Infinix Note 40 Pro smartphone, both traced to a burglary incident at Opebi, where he allegedly stole ₦200,000 and the phone from a sleeping trader.
Investigations revealed that the suspect had already spent part of the stolen money on new clothes and shoes, which were also recovered.
In a separate operation on Friday, October 24, 2025, RRS operatives arrested Isa and Ganiu while attempting to steal mobile phones from unsuspecting commuters at different locations in Lagos.
Preliminary findings indicated that the suspects specialised in snatching phones and wallets during rush hours in crowded traffic areas and at commercial bus stops.
All three suspects are currently in custody at the RRS headquarters, pending the completion of investigations. They will be charged to court thereafter.
Commissioner of Police, CP Moshood Jimoh, commended the RRS operatives for their vigilance and professionalism, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to proactive policing and intelligence-driven operations aimed at ensuring the safety of residents across the state.
