The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old man, Anas Dauda, for allegedly displaying an AK-47 rifle in a viral video and offering it for lease or sale.
Dauda, a resident of Jalingo B area in Lamorde Ward, Mubi South Local Government Area, was picked up for unlawful possession of a firearm.
Police spokesman, SP Suleiman Nguroje, in a statement on Friday, said the suspect was seen in the video brandishing the rifle loaded with three magazines and making “disturbing and threatening comments,” including offering to sell or rent out the weapon.
Nguroje said the video caused panic among residents and was promptly reported to the police.
“On receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, ordered immediate investigation and directed operatives led by the DPO of Mubi South Division to trace and arrest the suspect,” the statement read.
He said the operatives tracked Dauda to a remote location in Mubi where he was arrested.
The command said investigation was ongoing to recover the firearm and trace its source.
Nguroje assured residents that the police remained committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state.
