Gunmen have kidnapped the Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Samaila Bagudu, in his hometown, Bagudu, headquarters of Bagudu Local Government Area.
The armed men reportedly invaded the town late Friday, shooting sporadically to scare residents before abducting the lawmaker.
Sources said Bagudu was seized shortly after observing his prayers and on his way home from the mosque.
Confirming the incident, the Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Governor, Ahmed Idris, said security agencies had been notified and were working to ensure the safe release of the Deputy Speaker.
As of press time, attempts to get further information from the Police Command in the state were unsuccessful.
