Operatives of the Kwara State Police Command have arrested a suspected serial vandal notorious for stealing electricity transformer components in parts of the state.

Spokesperson of the command, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued in Ilorin on Thursday.

She said the suspect, whose identity was not immediately disclosed, had been on the command’s watchlist following several cases of vandalism reported by electricity distribution officials and residents.

According to Adeyemi, “The suspect was apprehended after intelligence-led surveillance by operatives who had been monitoring his movements for weeks. Items recovered from him include transformer cables, armoured wires, and cutting tools.”

She added that the suspect had confessed to the crime and provided useful information that would aid in arresting other members of the syndicate.

Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, commended the operatives for their diligence and warned vandals to desist from acts capable of sabotaging public infrastructure.

He reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting government property and ensuring that offenders face the full weight of the law.
