A mild drama played out at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday when the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, had a heated exchange with an operative of the Department of State Services (DSS).
In a video that surfaced shortly after the proceedings, Kanu, visibly agitated, was seen pushing a DSS officer while accusing him of disobeying the law.
“You have no law! You have no law!” Kanu shouted at the officer, who appeared to have attempted to restrict his movement within the courtroom.
Reacting to the incident, Hon. Obi Aguocha, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, faulted the conduct of the proceedings, describing them as “biased.”
According to Aguocha, “I have always said it — in Nigeria, there seem to be two sets of rules: one for the Igbo man and another for others.”
Meanwhile, Justice James Omotosho has fixed November 20 for judgment in the terrorism case filed against Kanu.
The judge noted that despite being granted six days to present his defence, Kanu failed to do so. He added that the defendant cannot now claim to have been denied the right to a fair hearing, having been given ample opportunity to defend himself.
