Police in Nasarawa State have arrested the village head of Sarkin Noma, Ero Yaro, over his alleged role in a midnight attack that left two people dead and one abducted.
Spokesman for the Command, SP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the arrest in Lafia yesterday.
He said gunmen invaded Sarkin Noma Village in Keana Local Government Area, killing two residents and whisking away one.
“Acting on credible information, the Commissioner of Police deployed operatives from the Kadarko Division, who combed the area and arrested the 45-year-old village head, Ero Yaro, in connection with the incident,” Nansel said.
The state government condemned the attack and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Senior Special Adviser on Public Affairs, Comrade Peter Ahemba, in a statement, decried the growing infiltration of criminal elements across the state, describing it as a serious security concern.
He said: “We condemn in the strongest terms the recent midnight attack in Sarkin Noma and similar incidents. The government will not allow enemies of peace to thrive.
Security agencies have been directed to apprehend and prosecute the culprits without delay.”
The statement assured residents that the government is working closely with security agencies and community leaders to strengthen security in rural areas and urged the public to volunteer useful information to aid ongoing investigations.
