The Ondo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency has inaugurated a technical working committee (TWG) to address measles and rubella among children in the state.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Banji Ajaka, on Monday said that the purpose of the group was to ensure smooth vaccination against measles and rubella across the state.
“The vaccination is a means of proactive measures put in place.
“The TWG will fathom ways of addressing challenges that may come up during the vaccine campaign.
“Vaccine against the two diseases has been included in the routine immunisation given to infants,” the commissioner said.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser on Health to the Governor, Prof. Simidele Odimayo, said that the state government was committed to the general well-being of the state.
“I urge all stakeholders to make the planned vaccination a success for benefit of all, “ Odimayo said.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ondo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Francis Akanbiemu, said that the inaugurated group was to guarantee a huge coverage of the vaccination.
Akanbiemu, who was represented by the Director of Control Disease, Dr Victor Adefeseyo, said that the vaccination would target children between nine months and 14 years.
He said: “The vaccination will start, tentatively, by Jan. 29, 2026 and last for 10 days with two days to mop up the exercise.
“The inaugurated group will convince parents and guardians in ensuring that all expected myths against the vaccination are addressed.”
One of the partners, MSI Nigeria Reproductive Choices, expressed its commitment to the well-being of the state through advocacy and in collaboration with the state government.
The partner’s representative, Mr Israel Adedotun, stated that through the group, the society would have accurate information on the vaccination.
“Through commitment and togetherness, there will be positive changes in the society,” he stated.
Also, a representative of the World Health Organisation, Dr Modupe Oluwasoore, said that the meeting was a partnership that would guarantee roles of the stakeholders.
