The Osun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the mysterious death of a security guard, identified as Basiru Aminu, who was found lifeless at his duty post in the Oke Ola area of Igbaye, in the state’s Odo Otin Local Government Area.
Residents reportedly discovered Aminu’s body around 7 a.m. on Tuesday and immediately alerted the authorities.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abiodun Ojelabi, said initial findings indicated no signs of physical violence on the deceased, suggesting that his death might have been natural.
“It appears to be a sudden and natural death. The incident occurred at Oke Ola in Igbaye, where the deceased, who worked as a security man, was found dead this morning.
One Fasasi Adebowale contacted the deceased’s brother to inform him of the situation,” Ojelabi stated.
He added that officers visited the scene and examined the body but found no evidence of assault. “However, investigations are ongoing, and an autopsy may be conducted to determine the exact cause of death,” the police spokesperson said.
The discovery of the body caused apprehension among residents, with speculations circulating over the cause of Aminu’s death.
A trader in the area, who preferred anonymity, told The PUNCH that she was among the first to see the deceased. “We found his body lying motionless and immediately called the police.
They came and took the body away. It’s very sad, and people are saying different things about how he died,” she said.
Another resident, identified simply as Risikat, who claimed to know Aminu personally, expressed confidence that the police investigation would uncover the truth.
“I believe the police will find out what really happened. It might have been a health issue, but we have to wait for the investigation to be completed,” she said.
The police assured that the outcome of the investigation would be made public upon conclusion.
