Suspected bandits on Wednesday evening killed a police officer and two vigilante members in a deadly ambush at Idadu community, Agbashi Development Area, Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The victims were said to be on routine patrol along the Doma–Idadu Road when they ran into the heavily armed assailants, who opened fire on their patrol vehicle without warning.
Eyewitnesses told journalists that the attackers struck in a coordinated “commando-style” operation, catching the security operatives off guard and leaving no chance for retaliation.
The slain police officer was reportedly attached to the Agbashi Police Division, while the two vigilante members belonged to a local joint task force formed to tackle rising bandit attacks in the area.
The latest incident comes barely a week after seven people were killed in a separate wave of attacks on communities in Keana and Doma Local Government Areas, sparking renewed fear among residents over the growing insecurity in the southern parts of the state.
Despite repeated assurances from the Nasarawa State Government that it has strengthened security measures, locals lament that no arrests have been made in connection with the recent killings.
Several residents have since fled their homes to neighbouring communities for fear of further attacks.
