The Lagos State Government has sealed Ejanla Restaurant, located at No. 40, Fola Osibo Street, Lekki, for allegedly discharging raw sewage into a public drainage system‌ through an illegal pumping connection.

The enforcement, carried out by officials of the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO), followed multiple complaints from residents about persistent foul odour and environmental pollution in the area.

Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, who confirmed the development in a post on his verified social media handle, said investigations revealed that the restaurant had installed a pumping device that channelled untreated wastewater directly into the public drainage network.

He described the act as “an unacceptable environmental infraction,” warning that such practices posed serious threats to public health and would attract stiff penalties.

“Every act of environmental nuisance and pollution portends grave dangers to public health and will be met with appropriate sanctions or prosecution,” Wahab stated.

Residents of the Lekki neighbourhood had earlier raised alarm over unpleasant odours and visible contamination of drains around the vicinity.

The LSWMO, after reviewing the complaints, confirmed the restaurant’s violation and immediately ordered its closure.

Wahab urged other business owners and residents to comply strictly with wastewater management regulations and report any illegal discharge to the appropriate authorities.

“We will not tolerate any business endangering the health of Lagosians by polluting our environment or abusing public infrastructure,” the commissioner added.
