Ondo ex-SDP guber candidate’s son suspects foul play in father’s death, seeks Police intervention

The first son of the late Otunba Bamidele Akingboye, a prominent businessman and 2023 governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ondo State, has called for a thorough investigation into what he described as suspicious circumstances surrounding his father’s death.

Speaking in an interview, Samuel Akingboye said inconsistencies in the accounts given by some family members about the events preceding his father’s death raised serious concerns.

“Upon arriving at the hospital, the condition of his body contradicted the narrative I was told.

The physical injuries I saw were inconsistent with the explanation presented to me,” he said.

He further alleged that shortly after his father’s demise, large sums of money were withdrawn from the deceased’s company account and transferred to bank accounts allegedly linked to his stepmother and stepbrother.

He also claimed that valuable items and important documents were taken from the family residence.

According to him, the case initially handled by the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, was inexplicably transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit in Surulere — a move he described as “deeply troubling and illogical.”

Akingboye lamented that despite several follow-ups, he was yet to receive a copy of the autopsy report or other findings related to the case.

He further accused his stepmother and her children of attempting to move or gain access to his late father’s assets, including vehicles and property, even while investigations were still ongoing.

The deceased’s son appealed to the Inspector General of Police and Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to intervene and ensure a transparent investigation, stressing that justice must be served.
