Fresh anxiety has gripped Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State after suspected Boko Haram fighters reportedly abducted seven residents, including two daughters of a local pastor, during a night raid on Shikarkir village.

Sources said the insurgents stormed the community around 8pm on Wednesday and initially seized about 15 people.

However, eight victims reportedly escaped as the attackers were few in number and not heavily armed.

A resident, John Yusuf, confirmed that the terrorists neither fired shots nor destroyed property during the invasion.

A community leader in Chibok, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the incident as heartbreaking, noting that the abducted persons included the pastor’s two daughters, a woman and her children, and the wife of a local resident, Mr Smith Shikarkir, alongside her baby.

“I am shocked and saddened by the attack on Shikarkir ward.

“My heart goes out to the families of the seven abducted,” he said in a message sent on Thursday. “It’s heartbreaking that this is happening weekly in Chibok.

“We must demand action from our leaders and support our troops to end this senseless violence. #ChibokDeservesPeace #PrayForChibok.”

Residents have continued to call for urgent intervention as repeated attacks have heightened fears in the area.
