A former Peoples Democratic Party ward chairman in Boriya–Shiya Ward, Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State, Abubakar Sise, has been abducted by gunmen who invaded his residence in a midnight attack.
The assailants reportedly stormed the compound around 12am on Thursday, firing multiple gunshots into the air to frighten residents before gaining access to the premises.
Local sources said one of Sise’s sons, who returned home late, was intercepted by the attackers and forced at gunpoint to call his father out of the house.
The kidnappers subsequently whisked away the former PDP official, leaving other family members unharmed.
At daybreak, spent bullet shells and a few live rounds were found scattered around the compound, indicating the intensity of the gunfire used to ward off any resistance.
The incident, described by residents as brief but terrifying, lasted only a few minutes before the gunmen fled the community.
Members of the Boriya vigilante group have since launched a search operation across nearby areas in a bid to trace the kidnappers and rescue the victim.
When contacted on Friday, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, said he had yet to receive a formal report on the incident but promised to investigate.
As of the time of filing this report, Sise’s whereabouts remain unknown.
