The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspect after a loud bang near Polaris Bank in Owo triggered panic among residents on Thursday.
According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, operatives swiftly opened an investigation following distress reports from the area. Preliminary findings showed that the noise, initially feared to be an explosion, was caused by a banger allegedly bought from a nearby supermarket.
The police identified the arrested suspect as Ayoola Daniel Ojumu, who is said to have confessed to his involvement.
His accomplice, who reportedly ignited the banger, is still at large. The Command assured that efforts are ongoing to track him down.
While appreciating the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his support in strengthening security operations, the Command urged parents and guardians to caution their children and wards, particularly as the festive season approaches.
It warned that any attempt to disturb public peace would be met with decisive action, adding that the suspect in custody will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Command also encouraged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies to enhance community safety.
