Security operatives in Kwara State have killed a suspected bandit during a fierce gun duel in Adekanbi Village, close to Bode-Saadu in Moro Local Government Area.
The joint operation, involving police personnel and local vigilantes, was part of intensified efforts to dislodge criminal elements across the state, according to a statement issued on Friday by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi.
Findings revealed that the encounter occurred on Wednesday after operatives launched a tactical mission based on intelligence reports indicating that a group of bandits had occupied a fortified hilltop in the area.
Ejire-Adeyemi said the security team came under heavy fire as they approached the location, prompting what she described as a “swift and superior counter-engagement” by the operatives.
“The overwhelming response forced the criminals to flee their position, some of them with suspected gunshot injuries,” she noted.
A sweep of the area after the confrontation led to the recovery of the body of a neutralised suspect, an AK-49 rifle, and 32 rounds of live ammunition.
The police spokesperson said the successful operation reflects the strategic direction of the Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, and aligns with the national security priorities of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
“This operation underscores the command’s improved kinetic capacity and its strengthened rapid-response approach under the leadership of the IGP,” she added.
The command assured residents that similar aggressive operations would continue in all identified flashpoints to maintain peace and security across Kwara State.
