Residents of Tudun Yola, Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State, were left in shock after two women were reportedly killed and their home destroyed by fire in what authorities say was a deliberate attack by unknown assailants.

The victims, Hauwa’u Yakubu and Zahra’u Aliyu, were both married to Alhaji Ashiru Shu’aibu Usaini. According to reports, the attackers stabbed one of the women before setting the house on fire.

Anas Shu’aibu, a stepson of the deceased, told newsmen that the tragedy occurred on Wednesday around midday while the husband and his sons were away at work.

“We didn’t realise anything was wrong until my father called me at night, asking me to come home. When we got there, we found the burnt body of one of them while the other was stuck in the bathroom. When we finally managed to break down the door, we found her dead as well,” Shu’aibu explained.

He added that the family initially believed the fire was accidental, but further assessment revealed that it was a targeted attack intended to harm the victims.

Alhaji Ashiru expressed his grief over the incident, praying for the repose of his wives’ souls.

“They killed my wives and then set one of the bodies on fire. I still don’t know why they carried out this wicked act,” the husband lamented.

CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the Kano State Police Command spokesperson, confirmed the incident and said that investigations into the killings were ongoing.
