The Yobe State Police Command has opened an investigation into the death of a 16-year-old girl discovered under suspicious circumstances in Gashu’a, Bade Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, said in a statement on Sunday that the Divisional Headquarters received a distress call on November 16 from the Mai Anguwa of Dadin Kowa Ward, Idris Haruna, reporting the incident.

The victim, identified as Sadiya Suleiman of Sabon Gari Ward, was found lifeless near the New Prison fence in Gashu’a.

According to the statement, detectives were immediately deployed to the scene and transported the teenager to the Specialist Hospital, Gashu’a, where medical personnel confirmed her death.

The Command noted that preliminary findings indicate the circumstances surrounding her death were criminal in nature.

Abdulkarim said the police have launched a manhunt for those responsible and are working to unravel the events that led to the incident.

He urged residents to provide credible information that could assist the investigation.

Condemning the act as callous and unacceptable, Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, assured that the Command will deploy all necessary resources to ensure the perpetrators are identified and brought to justice.
