The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested seven youths for allegedly engaging in cross-dressing and other immoral acts during a raid on a popular relaxation spot along Zoo Road in Kano Municipal.
Deputy Commander General of the board, Sheikh Mujahid Aminudeen Abubakar, confirmed the development in an interview with Radio Nigeria, stating that all the suspects are below 23 years of age.
According to him, the arrest followed a tip-off from a resident who alerted Hisbah to unusual activities at the location, where young men reportedly converged regularly and were frequently picked up by visiting vehicles.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects came from Kogi, Bauchi and Kano states.
During the operation, Hisbah operatives also apprehended a young man and a woman found together inside a tricycle, while a separate case involving a missing young lady was traced to Sokoto, where she was located and reunited with her parents.
Sheikh Mujahid disclosed that the board intends to seal off the facility for allegedly accommodating underage youths involved in questionable activities, adding that both the suspects and operators of the place would be handed over to appropriate authorities for further action.
He reaffirmed the board’s resolve to clamp down on social vices across the state and urged residents to promptly report suspicious behaviour to Hisbah or other security agencies.
